This article discusses that the notion of space in literary texts of the languages of different systems is expressed either by means of place names or indefinitely, by means of symbols and signs. Writers approach individually to the notion of space and depending on the aim they may not use place names, describe the place of the events indefinitely. Depending on the genre the indefinite expression of the space is characteristic to the stories and depending on the investigated period it is characteristic to the Azerbaijani and English literature of the XIX-XX centuries.
