ODLAR YURDU UNİVERSİTETİNİN ELMİ VƏ PEDAQOJİ XƏBƏRLƏRİ HUMANİTAR ELMLƏR SERİYASI , vol.6, no.34, pp.170-175, 2012 (Peer-Reviewed Journal)
This paper presents the study of matters related to the organization and financing of Safavid army, based on existing literature and travel diaries. During the reign of Shah Abbas I, the major changes have been made in the army concerning its structure, provision and financing. Those changes were aimed at strengthening of central authorities. In Safavid times, there was no centralized army. During a war, in the absence of regular army units, the separate non-regular groups of soldiers maintained by beylerbeyis (provincial governors) had been usually transformed into the united army. The paper cites data about the salaries of all the categories of military servicemen in the Safavid state.
