This article deals with the tem ple o f Kurm uk w hich is located in G akh region o f Azerbaijan. It is noted that in the course o f the spread o f C hristianity in the Caucasus A lbania and its transform ation into a state religion, C hristian churches w ere built here, at the site o f pre-C hristian beliefs, and the inhabitants o f the country, follow ing their ancient religion, continued to call these prayer houses «ojag» (a holy place), «pir» (a sacred place), perform ing here rites and including elem ents o f their pre-m onotheistic beliefs into classical ideology. Kurm uk tem ple is also one o f the early m edieval A lbanian structures w hich w as built at the site o f the one o f the ancient M oon tem ples. Hascd on historical facts, the author com es to the conclusion that the local population o f the region perpetuated A zerbaijani traditions based on the m atrix o f the ancient A lbanian culture, and in spite o f trials o f centuries, m anaged to keep the ancient outlook form ed in the very early stages o f the history o f A zerbaijan.
