In this study, the main tendencies in Azerbaijan economy in the ppostindependence period, and its current situation are extensively analyzed. In this period, economic decline in 1991-1996 and economic development processes after 1996 is explained in detail in the light of the main macroeconomic parameters. The result of this research show that in the 20th year of economy, there are not only some important developments but also some problems to be solved. Therefore, the current government policies related to those problems are assessed and some suggestions related to those policies recommended.
