This paper provides a socioeconomic background in the framework of the migration processes in West Pomeranian voivodship. It presents the main results of the research report conducted by the author as part of the project entitled Foreign labour migration 2010. At first, the socio-eco-nomic situation is described with an emphasis to regional development ranking. Then, the major problems encountered by West Pomeranian labour market are identified. The author also analyses the main directions and motives inspiring people to migrate and find employment abroad.
