Qısa məlumat

Reducing emissions and saving energy are essential to global sustainable development. It is also a crucial pathway for China to realize the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality objectives promptly. Particularly with the growth of global digital transformation, there is a need to enhance the efficiency of enterprises’ production methods through financial digitalization (FD), which has become a pivotal accelerator in reducing enterprise carbon emissions (ECE). Examining data on China’s A-share listed enterprises and digital financial inclusion from 2011 to 2021, this study investigates the influence of FD on ECE and its mechanism. Firstly, we conduct a fixed-effect regression and conclude that FD can reduce the carbon emissions of listed enterprises. Then, through several robustness and endogeneity tests, we verify the regression result. Based on the mechanism test, we reveal that FD can assist enterprises in accomplishing carbon emission reduction by encouraging them to improve technological progress and alleviate financing constraints. Finally, heterogeneity analysis reveals that FD has a less pronounced effect on ECE in heavily polluting industries and resource-based industries, and a more decisive role in reducing ECE in areas with weak environmental regulations. However, there is no heterogeneity in the nature of enterprises. This research offers key theoretical and practical significance for developing FD to promote ECE reduction policies and realize global green sustainable development goals.
