Abstract

We investigate the effect of electric and magnetic fields applied transversely to the axis of a parabolic semiconductor quantum wire on the interband absorption coefficient. The interband transition selection rules have been obtained. We study the dependence of the absorption coefficient on the electric and magnetic fields, and direction of the applied electric field. It turns out that the transverse magnetic and electric fields produce notable changes in the optical properties of quantum wire. Numerical results are presented using parameters characteristic of GaAs/AlGaAs. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
