The problem of stability of a non-circular
cylindrical shell made of a material with non-uniform thickness subjected to
longitudinal compressive forces is considered. Solutions to the resolving
equation of the considered problem are found, approximate values of the upper
critical force parameter are determined. It is shown how the type of dependence
of Young's modulus on the thickness coordinate affects the nature of the loss
of stability forms.
