Experimental investigations are described of the exciton absorption and photoluminescence spectra of TlGaS[sub 2] monocrystals in the wide ranges of pressure (0-20 kbar) and temperature (1.8-190 K). It is shown that temperature rise causes increasing the forbidden zone width. The emission line shift of TlGaS[sub 2] is linear in respect pressure with accuracy not less than the ruby line shift. The fact permits to use the energy shifts of the ultranarrow line of TlGaS[sub 2] ([lambda]=5957, 2A) for determination of the value of uniform compression at low temperatures.
