Abstract

The effect of heat treatment at 503 K for 5 h in vacuum (∼10-3 Pa) on the conductivity, thermoelectric power, and Hall coefficient of extruded Bi0.85Sb0.15〈Pb〉 containing up to 0.1 at. % Pb was studied at temperatures between 77 and 300 K in magnetic fields of up to 74×104 A/m. As-extruded samples are weakly affected by Pb content and magnetic field. With increasing Pb content, α and RH change sign, and the material converts from n- to p-type. The samples doped with Pb are less sensitive to heat treatment. The results are interpreted in terms of lattice defects induced by extrusion and scattering electrons. Upon heat treatment, these defects disappear.
