Abstract

The article regards the approaches to the national matter of various political forces in Russia before the formation of the USSR and, above all, the Bolsheviks who won the Civil War, and the specifics of this approach in relation to the Caucasus region. In opposition to the ideology they preach, national contradictions are assessed as a defect of capitalist society and we can trace the dynamics of the change in the approach of the Bolshevik Ideologist V. Lenin to the solution of these collisions under the influence of Russian, regional and

world processes in 1917-1920. The role of the incorrect approach to the national question in the flare-up of modern ethnic conflicts in the Caucasus, arising from the formal attitude to the national matter at the time of the formation of the USSR, is emphasized in the article.
