Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly porous and large surface area materials composed of metal ions and organic ligands. They have been widely used in areas such as water harvesting from air, carbon dioxide capture, and storage of clean fuels such as hydrogen and methane. One of the main creators of the development of MOFs is Omar Yaghi, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2025 for this field. Although MOFs have great potential, they also have certain challenges, such as high energy and raw material requirements for production.
