This article explores effective strategies for developing listening skills among students in the context of the Azerbaijani school curriculum. Listening, as one of the core language skills, plays an essential role in communication and academic success; however, it is often given less emphasis compared to reading, writing and speaking in classroom practices. The study identifies key challenges faced by teachers in teaching listening comprehension, including limited audio resources, insufficient exposure to authentic language input, and lack of student motivation.

To address these issues, the article proposes a set of pedagogical solutions such as the integration of multimedia materials, implementation of pre-listening, while-listening and post-listening activities, and the use of interactive methods including group discussions and reflective questions. Strengthening teacher professional development and creating language-rich classroom environments are also highlighted as crucial components.

Overall, the research emphasizes that systematic and well-structured listening instruction improves students’ comprehension abilities, enhances their communication competence, and fosters a more engaging and effective language learning process in Azerbaijani schools.
