Abstract

This study investigates the effect of extensive natural resource exploitation on green economic growth policies in China between 2000 and 2020. The problem arises from the tension between resource-driven economic growth and environmental sustainability. We aim to assess the extent to which natural resource exploitation influences the efficacy of green growth policies. Utilizing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, we analyze long-term equilibrium relationships and short-term dynamics. Our results indicate that excessive natural resource use undermines green economic growth, revealing a significant negative impact on environmental quality and sustainable economic development. The study suggests that policy implications should focus on integrating resource efficiency and environmental sustainability into the core of economic growth strategies, advocating for a transition towards a more sustainable and resource-efficient economy.
