Abstract

The small-dose UV-light effect on Escherichia coli WP2 cells and their WP2 uvr A and WP2 rec A mutants with defective genes responsible for dark repair has been studied. At small-dose radiation all the above mentioned strains showed the effect of survival of cells subjected to spontaneous destruction. The greatest recovery effect was observed in cells in logarithmic and late stationary growth phases. The results obtained allow to conclude that the small-dose UV-light recovery effect is due to inducible repair system which is independent from rec and uvr genes; the spontaneous damages of DNA serve as substrate for this system.
