Abstract—Cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles synthesized by the method of laser ablation in liquid are experimentally studied. The structure, surface morphology, and optical properties of the nanoparticles are examined using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Based on analysis of the absorption and photoluminescence spectra, the band-gap width (eV) and the nature of the emission generated in the nanoparticles under the influence of a Nd:YAG laser are determined.
