Abstract

The reciprocal system 3Tl2Se + Bi2Te3 ⇄ 3Tl2Te + Bi2Se3 has been studied using DTA, powder X-ray diffraction, and emf measurements. Several polythermal sections and an isothermal section at 500 K have been designed, as well as the liquidus-surface projection. Extensive fields have been found for four-component solid solutions in the terminal components and ternary (Tl9BiX 6, TlBiX2) compounds. From emf results, the relative partial thermodynamic functions of thallium have been calculated for the phases of variable compositions found.
