The social status of ethnic and religious minorities in the Ganja Karabakh region is a subject that has received little attention in Azerbaijani historiography. However, studying this issue is relevant for several reasons. Firstly, understanding the status of minorities in the territories that were conquered by the Ottoman Empire can help us to reveal the model of governance that was used in a multi ethnic and multi religious society. Additionally, it allows us to establish the degree of inclusiveness of Muslim society and compare the social policies of the Ottoman and Safavid empires in a historical context. This study also enables us to shed light on the dynamics of the social development of different ethnic and religious groups in the Ottoman Empire.
