Nurlana Karimova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. She received her bachelor's degree with honors from the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University. She continued her education at the same institution and obtained a master's degree with honors in Thermal Physics.
She began her research career at the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). As a doctoral researcher, she conducted research on Phase Formation Processes and Crystallization Kinetics in Ag–In–S(Se) Systems. She successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation entitled "Phase Formation of Ag–In–S(Se) Systems, Structure and Crystallization Kinetics of AgInS₂(Se₂) Ternary Compound Thin Films" and, on June 5, 2016, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics by the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Since 2015, N. Karimova has been serving as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). In 2016, she was appointed Associate Professor in the same department. Between 2017 and 2020, she was a member of the UNEC Young Teachers' Council.
In 2017, N. Karimova won the joint competition "Young Scientists and Financial Literacy", organized by the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in celebration of Youth Day (February 2), with her article entitled Models and Approaches for Financial Education of Youth.
N. Karimova is the author and co-author of more than 50 scientific publications, including articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, conference papers, subject syllabi, and a teaching manual.
Her research interests include thin-film semiconductors, materials science, crystallization kinetics, nanotechnology, engineering education, and STEM teaching methodologies.
She currently teaches undergraduate courses in Physics, Fluid Mechanics, and Fundamental Electronics for Engineering and Computer Engineering students at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC).
In July 2017, she became a winner of the joint award competition “Young Scientists and Financial Literacy” announced by the Science Development Foundation under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the occasion of February 2 – Youth Day, with her article titled “Models and Approaches for Financial Education of Youth.”
N.Karimova is the author of 50 scientific works, including 35 articles—12 of which are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science—along with 20 theses, 4 subject programs, and 1 teaching aid.
She is currently teaching lectures and seminars on Physics, Fluid Mechanics, and Fundamental Electronics for engineering and computer engineering programs at Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC).
